Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigeria Interfaith Network for Peace (NINP) has called for stronger collaboration between faith-based organisations and the Federal Government to advance peace, religious tolerance, and national cohesion across the country.
The call formed the highlight of the Network’s General Assembly held on 5 August 2026 at the Cardinal Onaiyekan Foundation for Peace (COFP) Office in Abuja, where prominent Christian and Muslim leaders met to review ongoing peacebuilding efforts and adopt strategic resolutions for national development.
Presiding over the meeting, His Eminence John Cardinal Onaiyekan, CON, urged sustained interfaith dialogue and collective action in addressing Nigeria’s social and security challenges.
The Assembly resolved to intensify engagement with the Presidency by presenting policy recommendations on religious tolerance, hate speech, national values, and security. Members also advocated stronger actions to tackle insecurity, poverty, and corruption while prioritising the protection of lives and property.
To strengthen the Network’s institutional capacity, participants approved the organisation of a one-day strategic retreat aimed at refining NINP’s vision, mission, and operational framework. The Assembly further agreed to retain the Network’s current membership structure as efforts continue to consolidate its institutional foundation.
The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of Christian and Muslim leaders to building bridges of understanding, promoting peaceful coexistence, and supporting initiatives that foster unity and sustainable development in Nigeria.
The Nigeria Interfaith Network for Peace continues to serve as a platform for dialogue and collaboration among faith leaders, working to reduce tensions, strengthen mutual understanding, and contribute to lasting peace and national stability.
