Abuja, Nigeria — September 16, 2026:

The Global Fund GC8 Grant-Making Mission is underway in Nigeria, bringing together the Global Fund Country Team, National Programmes, Principal and Sub-Recipients, state representatives and other key stakeholders to advance the next phase of health investments in the country. As a Principal Recipient of the Global Fund, the organisation is participating in strategic discussions aimed at strengthening project delivery and ensuring that health investments translate into measurable and sustainable impact for Nigerians.

Key areas of focus during the grant-making mission include advancing the GC8 grant-making process for Tuberculosis (TB), HIV, malaria and Resilient and Sustainable Systems for Health (RSSH).

Participants are reviewing key grant documents, addressing outstanding issues, agreeing on timelines and identifying critical next steps towards finalising the new grants.

The mission is also reviewing the implementation of the ongoing GC7 grants, with discussions centred on progress made, outstanding activities and actions required towards effective grant closure.Another major focus is strengthening collaboration among stakeholders, particularly state-level actors, to promote effective implementation, coordination and sustainability of health interventions across the country.

In his goodwill message, the organisation’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr Patrick Dakum, welcomed the participating stakeholders and called for continued collaboration, alignment and shared responsibility in achieving the objectives of the Global Fund investments.Dr Dakum emphasised the importance of collective action among government institutions, implementing partners, states and other stakeholders in ensuring that available resources are effectively translated into improved health outcomes.

The GC8 grant-making mission provides an opportunity for stakeholders to consolidate lessons from previous grant cycles, address implementation gaps and strengthen strategies for the next phase of investments in Nigeria’s response to TB, HIV and malaria, as well as health-system strengthening.Together, stakeholders are working to turn health investments into measurable impact for Nigerians.
