The Plateau State Government has reiterated its commitment to advancing women’s economic empowerment through the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up (NFWP-SU), following a familiarization visit by the State Project Coordinating Unit to the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Caroline Panglang Dafur.
Speaking during the visit at the J.D. Gomwalk Secretariat in Jos, Commissioner Dafur explained that although the programme was initiated under the previous administration, implementation was delayed due to the non-payment of the state’s counterpart funding.
She noted that the administration of Governor Caleb Mutfwang fulfilled the funding obligation, enabling the successful rollout of the project. She also disclosed that the government has expanded the programme to three additional local government areas—Langtang South, Kanam, and Bassa—demonstrating its commitment to improving the economic well-being of women across Plateau State.
The commissioner urged the project team to remain dedicated to achieving the programme’s objectives and assured them of the ministry’s continued support and collaboration.
Earlier, the State Project Coordinator, Barr. Nanret Agaba, expressed appreciation to the Plateau State Government and the commissioner for facilitating the payment of the counterpart funds. She revealed that community entry activities had been completed in the pilot local government areas of Mangu, Mikang, and Jos South, with community training set to begin soon.
Also speaking, the Head of Operations, Rayandy Kim Chuwang, thanked the commissioner for her unwavering support and expressed confidence that the project team would successfully deliver its mandate, positioning Plateau State as a model for the effective implementation of the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up Project.
