The Security Division of the Federal University of Education, Pankshin (FUEP), has clarified that an NCE II student identified as Mr. Dechi Yildung Ezekiel, who was linked to an alleged campus theft incident, is not an indigene of Wulmi Village in Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The clarification was contained in a statement issued by the FUEP Security Division following its earlier press statement dated Tuesday, September 29, 2026, in which the suspect had been identified as an indigene of Wulmi Village.
According to the Security Division, following the arrest and interrogation of the suspect, he claimed to be an indigene of Wulmi Village. However, subsequent investigation into his identity established that the claim was false.
The institution said further investigation revealed that the suspect had provided false information about his identity.
FUEP therefore commended the Wulmi Development Association for promptly investigating the matter and establishing the facts concerning the suspect’s identity.
The Security Division also appreciated the association for its swift response and assurances of continued cooperation with FUEP, the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies in the collective effort to prevent and combat crime.
The institution further assured the public that, working with other security agencies, it would strengthen the profiling and verification of suspects’ identities before releasing information to the public.
“Kindly accept our apology for the misinformation that emanated from the suspect who lied about his true identity, hence the false information,” the statement said.
FUEP described the Wulmi Development Association as committed to truth, peace, justice and the protection of the good name of Wulmi Village, while commending the community for its cooperation and understanding.
The institution reiterated its security advisory to members of the university community and the public: “Stay vigilant, stay safe.”
