Chief Hon. David Bitrus Barji Kasuwa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial Candidate for Plateau Central in the 2027 general elections, has congratulated former Head of State, General Dr. Yakubu Jack Gowon (Rtd.), GCFR, on his 92nd birthday, describing him as an elder statesman whose life and service exemplify sacrifice, patriotism and commitment to national unity.
In a goodwill message issued on Monday, October 19, 2026, Barji joined millions of Nigerians in celebrating the former Head of State, whose leadership and contributions to Nigeria’s nation-building efforts continue to shape the country’s history.
Barji commended Gowon’s commitment to preserving Nigeria’s unity during one of the most challenging periods in the nation’s history, noting that his philosophy of “No Victor, No Vanquished” and the policy of Reconciliation, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (the Three Rs) reflected a vision of healing, rebuilding and fostering national cohesion after the Nigerian Civil War.
He also acknowledged Gowon’s contributions to national development, particularly the creation of 12 states in 1967, the establishment of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 1973 and his role in advancing regional cooperation through the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), established in 1975.
According to Barji, these initiatives underscored Gowon’s enduring belief in national integration, youth development and cooperation among African nations.
The APC senatorial candidate further praised the former Head of State for sustaining his commitment to peace, humility, faith and national service long after leaving office, describing his continued advocacy for Nigeria’s unity as a source of inspiration to present and future generations.
“As you celebrate this remarkable milestone, I pray that Almighty God grants you renewed strength, sound health, peace of mind and many more years of life. May your wisdom and experience continue to inspire our collective pursuit of a united, peaceful and prosperous Nigeria,” Barji said.
He wished Gowon a happy 92nd birthday and expressed appreciation for his decades of service to the nation, stressing the importance of drawing lessons from the lives of leaders who have dedicated themselves to national unity and the common good.
Happy 92nd Birthday, Your Excellency!
