The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, has reiterated the Command’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the National Youth Service Corps in Borno State to ensure the scheme continues to deliver on its national mandate.
According to a statement released by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel, Sani Uba, on the Nigerian Army’s X handle on Friday, Abubakar made the pledge when the Borno State NYSC Coordinator, Mallam Nasir Bello, led his management team on a courtesy visit to the OPHK Headquarters in Maiduguri.
Welcoming the delegation, the theatre commander highlighted the crucial role the NYSC plays in promoting national unity and development.
He commended the existing cooperation between OPHK and the scheme, noting that the successful reopening and operation of NYSC orientation camps in Borno reflect the significant improvement in the state’s security situation.
“The successful return of NYSC orientation camps in the state is an indication of the significant improvement in the security situation in Borno.
“The command remains steadfast in supporting NYSC activities, particularly in guaranteeing the safety and welfare of corps members. This assurance is important ahead of the forthcoming local government elections in the state,” Abubakar said.
In his remarks, NYSC State Coordinator Mallam Nasir Bello expressed appreciation for the warm reception and the continuous support the scheme has enjoyed from the Theatre Command.
Bello explained that his visit was intended to officially familiarise himself with the leadership of OPHK following his assumption of office in April 2025 and to reaffirm the strong presence of the NYSC in Borno.
He recalled that the scheme had suspended activities in the state in earlier years due to insurgency, but fully returned following the improved security landscape.
Describing the NYSC as a “baby of the Nigerian Army,” Bello appealed for sustained collaboration and protection for corps members deployed to the state.
The visit featured the signing of the visitors’ register, presentation of a souvenir to the NYSC Coordinator by the theatre commander, and a group photograph to commemorate the engagement.
