The Federal University of Education Pankshin (FUEP) has taken a significant step towards preparing its newly admitted students for life beyond the classroom, with a comprehensive sensitisation programme focused on campus life, career planning and professional development.
The programme, organised by the University’s Career Services Centre, brought together students, academic leaders and career experts to equip fresh undergraduates with the knowledge, skills and mindset needed to thrive academically and build successful careers from their first year.
Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor of FUEP, Prof. Noel Wannang, urged the students to maximise the opportunities provided by the Career Services Centre, describing early career planning as a vital ingredient for future success.
Represented by the Director of Physical Planning, Arc. Joseph Inuwa, the Vice Chancellor encouraged the students to participate actively in the sensitisation sessions and commended the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) for selecting FUEP as one of Nigeria’s designated Career Services Centres.
In his welcome address, the Director of the Career Services Centre, Dr. Joshua Ndit, represented by the Deputy Director, Dr. Lidimma Benjamin Golkwi, said the Centre is committed to producing graduates who are academically sound, professionally competent and globally competitive.
He explained that career development begins from the first day of admission and continues throughout a student’s academic journey, noting that the Centre provides career counselling, mentorship, employability skills training, CV and cover letter writing support, interview preparation, entrepreneurship development, internship guidance and networking opportunities.
The sensitisation featured thought-provoking presentations by seasoned academics and professionals.
The Dean of the College of Sciences, Prof. Dung Mohammed Dauda, spoke on “Building a Successful Career from the First Year,” urging students to cultivate discipline, purpose and excellence from the outset.
Career Coach, Mrs. Susan Ochigbo, delivered a presentation titled “Making Smart Choices on Campus – Character, Purpose and Life After Graduation,” while the Link Person for Colleges and Schools, Mr. Manpan Dogara, addressed participants on “Thriving on Campus: Balancing Academics, Social Life and Personal Growth.”
Also speaking, the Link Person for Alumni, Mr. Nenfort Joseph, presented “Beyond Your Degree – Skills Every Nigerian Undergraduate Needs for the Future,” stressing the growing importance of digital, entrepreneurial and interpersonal skills in today’s competitive labour market.
The programme concluded with closing remarks by the Link Person for Industries and Employers, Comrade Canaan Danok, who challenged the students to remain focused and take advantage of every opportunity available throughout their academic journey.
The sensitisation reflects FUEP’s growing commitment to producing graduates who are not only academically excellent but also equipped with the practical skills, professional networks and career readiness required to succeed in an evolving global economy.
