The Plateau State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing science, technology and innovation through a strengthened partnership with the Technology Incubation Centre (TIC), Bukuru, aimed at supporting three Plateau nominees in the national stage of the Next Gen Innovation Competition.
The assurance was given by the Commissioner for Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Cletus Bako Shurkuk, during a courtesy visit by the Centre Manager of TIC, Mr. Alex Uke, and his management team.
Mr. Uke said the visit was to deepen collaboration between both institutions and formally present Plateau’s three nominees: Nanbal Walshak (Organic Technology), Dimfa Dashe (ICT), and Brendan Salla (Biotechnology), who emerged as the state’s representatives in the national innovation contest held in Abuja.
He explained that the nominees are now seeking government support ahead of the national selection, where successful participants will represent Nigeria at the international competition in London in August 2026.
Mr. Uke also commended the Ministry for successfully hosting the maiden Plateau State Science, Technology and Innovation Festival (PLASSTIFEST), describing it as a groundbreaking initiative that has inspired similar efforts across the country.
The delegation showcased their innovative projects, highlighting practical solutions in organic technology, ICT and biotechnology.
Responding, Dr. Shurkuk congratulated the nominees and praised the Technology Incubation Centre for its dedication to promoting innovation in Plateau State. He reaffirmed the Mutfwang administration’s commitment to investing in science, technology and innovation as critical drivers of sustainable development and economic growth.
The Commissioner noted that the government’s investments are designed to restore Plateau State’s leadership in innovation while projecting a more positive image of the state nationally and globally.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Peter Lamba Bot, mni, also lauded the enduring partnership with the Technology Incubation Centre, stressing that the ministry would immediately engage the three innovators in programmes designed to mentor and inspire young people during the upcoming summer break.
He expressed confidence in the nominees’ success at the national competition and called for greater participation of girls in future innovation contests to promote gender inclusion in science and technology.
The visit reaffirmed the shared commitment of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and the Technology Incubation Centre, Bukuru, to nurturing young innovators and positioning Plateau State as a leading hub for science, technology and innovation in Nigeria.
