The Plateau State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has joined a nationwide road walk organised to raise awareness ahead of the 2026 World Public Relations Forum (WPRF), scheduled to hold in Abuja in November.
The road walk, held on Saturday, October 3, commenced at Miango Junction and ended at the Secretariat Roundabout in Jos, attracting a large turnout of NIPR members dressed in the Institute’s colours and national colours, symbolising unity, professionalism and commitment to the public relations profession.
The 2026 World Public Relations Forum, themed “Responsible Communication: The Voice of the World,” is scheduled for November 15–21 in Abuja, with the main programme running from November 16. The forum is being hosted by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations in partnership with the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management.

Dr. Bere emphasised the importance of public relations in bridging communication gaps between government and citizens, particularly at a time when misinformation can spread rapidly.
Also speaking at the event, NIPR Council Member, Prof. Sarah Lwahas, highlighted the importance of the forthcoming WPRF in showcasing Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage to the international community.
She also noted that Plateau State could benefit from increased participation and registration by members of the public relations community for the global event.
Other dignitaries at the road walk included representatives of the Plateau State Commissioner of Police and the Federal Road Safety Corps Sector Commandant, NUJ Plateau State Chairman, Ayuku Pwaspo, and the Vice Chairman of the Plateau State NIPR Chapter, Sunny Dung, who represented the Chapter Chairman, Bajeh Thomas.
The event also received media coverage from the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and PRTVC, helping to extend the awareness campaign to a wider audience.
The road walk formed part of activities designed to build awareness and momentum ahead of the global public relations gathering in Abuja.
According to the organisers, WPRF 2026 is expected to bring together communication professionals, policymakers, institutional leaders and other stakeholders from around the world. The forum will focus on responsible communication and its role in promoting trust, ethical leadership, social cohesion and sustainable development.
The LOC Chairman for the Plateau road walk, in a vote of thanks, acknowledged the support and participation of Fellows and elders of the Chapter, as well as institutions including the University of Jos, NTA Jos, PRTV and the Boys Brigade Band.
He also appreciated the entire membership of the Plateau State NIPR Chapter for their participation and contribution to the success of the event.
