The Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN) and Professor of Public Health at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, USA, Prof. Patrick Dakum, has congratulated Mrs. Victoria Gowon, wife of Nigeria’s former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, on the occasion of her 80th birthday.
Prof. Dakum described Mrs. Gowon as a woman of immense character, patriotism and service, whose contributions to nation-building, particularly in the health sector, remain commendable.
He noted that as a trained nurse, Mrs. Gowon made significant contributions to the country’s healthcare development, while also serving the nation with distinction and dedication as First Lady during the administration of her husband, General Yakubu Gowon.
Prof. Dakum particularly commended her for standing firmly by her husband during his years in office and through the difficult period following his overthrow, describing her as an embodiment of loyalty, courage and unwavering commitment.
According to him, Mrs. Gowon represents the ideals of patriotism, responsible wifehood and family values, having supported and encouraged her spouse through thick and thin while raising her children in the fear of God and preparing them to contribute meaningfully to humanity.
“Mrs. Victoria Gowon is an epitome of patriotism, commitment and selfless service to her fatherland. She has demonstrated remarkable strength, dignity and loyalty, both in her service to the nation and in her role as a wife and mother,” Prof. Dakum said.
While wishing her a happy 80th birthday, the former Plateau State Commissioner for Health and Information prayed for Mrs. Gowon to enjoy many more fruitful years in sound health, divine strength, wisdom and understanding.
He also expressed hope that she would continue to support her husband, mentor younger generations and contribute to the development and unity of Nigeria.
