The Plateau State Gender and Equal Opportunities Commission (PLASGEOC) has intensified efforts to promote social protection and public awareness by taking its sensitization campaign directly to commuters and residents across Jos North and Jos South Local Government Areas.
Led by the Chairperson of the Commission, Barr. Olivia Dazyam, the team boarded metro buses along major routes to educate members of the public on the Commission’s mandate and the importance of protecting vulnerable persons in society.
The campaign commenced at the Zawan Metro Bus Stop, where members of the Boys Brigade Band entertained commuters and passersby with lively musical performances that attracted public attention and encouraged participation in the exercise.
Addressing passengers during the outreach, Dazyam highlighted the Commission’s commitment to promoting justice, fairness, inclusion and equal opportunities for all persons, regardless of gender, age, disability or social background. She stressed the need for collective action in addressing societal challenges such as Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), human trafficking, child neglect, abandonment of parental responsibilities, discrimination and other forms of abuse.
She reaffirmed the Commission’s resolve to protect the rights of women, men, girls, boys and other vulnerable groups, while ensuring that victims and survivors have access to justice and support services.
As part of the exercise, Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials were distributed to members of the public. The Commission also engaged commuters on key issues including the prevention of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, parental responsibility, human trafficking and equal opportunities.
The sensitization campaign covered the Zawan–Terminus and Zawan–Farin Gada routes, reaching hundreds of residents, traders, transport operators and commuters along the corridors.
Dazyam also interacted with journalists, providing further insight into the Commission’s mandate, ongoing interventions and the various cases it has handled in pursuit of justice, protection and equal opportunities for all citizens of Plateau State.

According to her, the awareness campaign is part of PLASGEOC’s ongoing efforts to deepen public understanding of the Gender and Equal Opportunities Law and encourage citizens to actively participate in building a society founded on respect, inclusion, accountability and human dignity.
The Commission called on residents of Plateau State to work together in creating a safe, fair and inclusive society where the rights of every individual are protected and respected.
“If you see something, say something, do something, and it will be sorted,” Dazyam stated.
