Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has flagged off the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the 41-kilometre Bisichi–Fan–Mangu Halle Road, assuring citizens that the project will deliver durable infrastructure capable of supporting the state’s long-term economic development.
Governor Mutfwang performed the flag-off ceremony on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at Fan District, describing the road as a strategic link that will strengthen connectivity across Plateau State’s three senatorial districts and improve the movement of people, goods and services.
The Governor explained that the road was originally awarded in December 2012 to Eighteen Engineering International Construction Company (EEC) as a surface-dressed road on a laterite base.
He said the project has now been comprehensively upgraded to a full asphalt road in response to increasing traffic demands and the deteriorating condition of the existing infrastructure.
According to him, the decision to reconstruct the road demonstrates his administration’s commitment to providing infrastructure that will serve both present and future generations.
“Upon completion, this road will reduce travel time, improve road safety, facilitate access to markets, healthcare facilities, schools and other essential services.
“It will also complement other strategic road projects of this administration, including the Foron–Bakin Kogi–Kadunu–Gindiri Road, further strengthening connectivity across Plateau State,” he said.
Governor Mutfwang also disclosed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has granted full approval for the construction of the Mararaban Jama’a–Mangu–Kanke–Langtang–Shendam–Ibi Road.
He described the approval as another significant demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to the development of Plateau State.
The Governor expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for his support, goodwill and friendship towards the people of Plateau State, noting that collaboration between the state and federal governments was creating new opportunities for infrastructure development, economic growth and improved livelihoods.
Mutfwang commended the people of Fan and Barkin-Ladi for their cooperation and willingness to make land available for development.
He assured the communities that his administration would continue to pursue programmes aimed at improving their livelihoods and creating sustainable economic opportunities.
The Governor further disclosed that the administration was working towards introducing modern greenhouse agricultural systems, which require less land while producing higher yields, as part of efforts to expand agricultural productivity and strengthen rural economies.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Commissioner for Works, Dr. Cletus Shurkuk, described the Bisichi–Fan–Mangu Halle Road as a vital economic and social link.
He said the completion of the project would improve connectivity, stimulate economic activities, create opportunities and enhance the quality of life of citizens in the benefiting communities.
The Chairman of Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area, Hon. Stephen Pwajok, and the Da Gwom Rwai of Fan, Da. Iliya Dashwai, expressed appreciation to Governor Mutfwang for initiating the project.
They pledged the continued support and cooperation of the people of Barkin-Ladi Local Government Area, while assuring the contractor of the host communities’ cooperation to ensure the project is delivered according to specification and within the agreed timeframe.
The Site Engineer of Eighteen Engineering International Construction Company (EEC) also assured the state government and the people of Plateau that the company would deliver the project according to the agreed specifications and timeframe.
