The Federal University of Education Pankshin has commenced a two-day training programme for final year students aimed at enhancing their employability and job-hunting skills.
Declaring the programme open at the University Auditorium, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Noel Nen’man Ndalbeh Wannang, said the Nigerian labour market is increasingly challenged by a widening skills gap and a growing youth population that exceeds available job opportunities.
Represented by the Dean, College of Early Childhood Care Education and Primary Education (ECCE & PED), Prof. Henry Katniyon, the Vice-Chancellor noted that many graduates possess academic qualifications but lack the practical, digital, and soft skills demanded by modern employers.
He stated that the University is committed to producing graduates who are “locally relevant and globally employable,” while also encouraging entrepreneurship and self-reliance among students.
Prof. Wannang commended the Career Services Centre for organising the programme, describing it as a strategic initiative to equip students with practical knowledge in job searching, résumé writing, cover letter preparation, and other employability skills that meet both local and international standards.
He urged participants to take full advantage of the training by remaining focused and actively engaging during the sessions.
In his welcome address, the Director of the Career Services Centre, Dr. Joshua Ndit, said the programme was designed to expose students to critical areas of career development and workplace readiness.
According to him, students transitioning from the classroom to the labour market must combine academic excellence with practical employability skills to remain competitive.
Dr. Ndit appreciated the University Management and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund for sponsoring the programme and encouraged participants to interact freely with facilitators throughout the training.
Resource persons at the event included Dr. Gideon Olushola and Mr. Emmanuel Archie.
