Karl Kumm University, Vom, has reaffirmed its commitment to producing a generation of academically excellent leaders equipped to address some of Africa’s most pressing development challenges.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Yakubu Yerima Jabil, stated this during a courtesy visit to the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria (IHVN), Prof. Patrick Dakum.

Prof. Jabil said the university was seeking strategic partnerships with the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria, particularly in view of its pioneering contributions to public health, research, diagnostics and capacity building in Nigeria.

According to a statement signed by the Protocol and Information Officer to the Vice Chancellor, Bulus Gambo, Prof. Jabil solicited areas of collaboration in medical research and education, diagnostics, public health and community health outreach.

He also identified joint research and academic development in Microbiology, infectious diseases, environmental health and other related fields as areas of mutual interest.

The Vice Chancellor noted that such collaboration would enable Karl Kumm University to leverage its academic resources alongside the Institute’s state-of-the-art research infrastructure and extensive field experience.

Receiving the Vice Chancellor and his management team, the Director General and CEO of the Institute of Human Virology Nigeria, Prof. Patrick Dakum, said the institute, established in 2004, had remained committed to developing world-class research and capacity-building mechanisms aimed at producing health professionals capable of transforming the lives of vulnerable communities in Nigeria and across Africa.

Prof. Dakum said the institute had, over the years, supported young researchers while providing care, treatment and access to global funding opportunities to strengthen fragile healthcare systems across Africa.

He expressed the institute’s readiness to partner with Karl Kumm University, adding that such collaboration would expose the university to an international network of scientists and researchers, creating opportunities that would be beneficial to both institutions.

Also speaking, the Head of the Department of Microbiology, Dr. Patricia Chollom, thanked Prof. Dakum for providing an international platform capable of motivating researchers and supporting them to achieve greater excellence in their fields.

The proposed partnership is expected to strengthen research, innovation and capacity development while contributing to the advancement of public health and sustainable development in Nigeria and Africa.
