The Plateau State Peace Building Agency (PPBA) has pledged its support for the successful implementation of the Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up (NFWP-SU), reaffirming its commitment to promoting women’s economic empowerment, social inclusion, and sustainable peace across the state.
The commitment was made during an advocacy visit by the State Project Coordinating Unit (SPCU) of the NFWP-SU to the agency as part of efforts to strengthen institutional partnerships for the effective implementation of the project.
Speaking during the visit, the State Project Coordinator, Barr. Nanret Jane Agaba, explained that the engagement was designed to foster collaboration with critical stakeholders whose support is essential to the success of the programme.
She said the Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up seeks to improve the socio-economic wellbeing of women through the establishment of 1,200 Women Affinity Groups (WAGs) in each participating Local Government Area. According to her, the groups will provide women with financial literacy training, livelihood support, savings and loan opportunities, and other economic empowerment interventions aimed at improving household incomes and financial resilience.
Responding, the Director-General of the Plateau State Peace Building Agency, Mrs. Julie G. Sanda, described the initiative as a timely intervention that complements the agency’s mandate of fostering peace, social cohesion, and inclusive development.
Mrs. Sanda requested additional information on the project’s implementation framework, including success stories from states where the initiative has achieved measurable impact, noting that such experiences would help guide the agency’s support for the programme in Plateau State.
She also emphasised the importance of ensuring that internally displaced women and other vulnerable groups are fully integrated into the project’s implementation. She sought clarification on measures being adopted to ensure that women who have lost their livelihoods due to conflict and other socio-economic challenges are not excluded from benefiting from the programme.
In her response, Barr. Agaba assured the agency that the project is deliberately designed to promote inclusiveness through community-based interventions that target vulnerable women. She stressed that collaboration with relevant stakeholders remains critical to achieving the project’s objectives and ensuring that no eligible beneficiary is left behind.
The visit concluded with the presentation of souvenirs by the Director-General of the Plateau State Peace Building Agency to the NFWP-SU delegation as a symbol of goodwill and commitment to a productive partnership.
Both organisations expressed optimism that the collaboration would strengthen peacebuilding efforts while creating sustainable economic opportunities for women across Plateau State.
