The Women for Positive Peacebuilding Initiative (WOPPI) has continued its community engagement efforts to strengthen support for women mediators and promote locally driven approaches to conflict prevention and peaceful coexistence in Plateau State.
The latest engagement took place in Mongor, Bokkos Local Government Area, where traditional leadership pledged support for WOPPI’s Support to Women Mediators Initiative.
During the engagement, the Chief of Mongor, SAF MANGOR, Zoom Ellu T, blessed the initiative and assured the women mediators of his full support in their efforts to address conflict and violence in the community.
The engagement provided an opportunity to strengthen collaboration between traditional leaders and women mediators, whose roles are vital in identifying emerging security threats and promoting peaceful resolution of disputes.
Following the visit, the women mediators held their bimonthly meeting to deliberate on emerging security concerns, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV), early warning signs and strategies for strengthening community response mechanisms.
The meeting also emphasised the need for stronger collaboration among women mediators, traditional rulers, security actors and other relevant stakeholders to improve community-level responses to conflict and violence.
Through sustained engagement with community leaders and other stakeholders, WOPPI continues to promote inclusive, community-based approaches to conflict prevention, response and peaceful coexistence.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the participation of women in peacebuilding and improve community capacity to identify and respond to emerging security challenges.
From Bassa to Bokkos, community engagement and collective action continue to drive efforts towards sustainable peace.
