The Women’s Peace and Protection Initiative (WOPPI) has secured approval for a new grant funding cycle covering August 2026 to March 2027, with a renewed focus on strengthening Women, Peace and Security (WPS), survivor protection systems and women’s leadership across Plateau State.
The organisation disclosed this in an update signed by Dung John Hwyere on behalf of WOPPI, expressing appreciation to partners and colleagues for their continued support and collaboration.
Under the new funding cycle, WOPPI said its interventions would focus on three major priority areas.
The first is to strengthen the implementation of Women, Peace and Security (WPS) initiatives in three new Local Government Areas—Bassa, Bokkos and Barkin Ladi, collectively referred to as the “3-Bs”—while also supporting the Local Area Peace and Inclusion Committee (LAPIC) in Jos South Local Government Area.
The second priority is to support and strengthen survivor protection systems, particularly interventions addressing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (CRSV).
WOPPI will also advance women’s leadership by supporting mentorship programmes, networking opportunities and engagements with critical stakeholders to enhance women’s participation and leadership in peacebuilding and community development.
The organisation emphasised that achieving these objectives would require the continued support, commitment and active collaboration of partners who have been involved in its activities.
“We will continue supporting activities of SAPIC as we have been used to in the past, with active collaboration from all the partners erstwhile involved in the past,” the statement said.
WOPPI expressed optimism that the new funding cycle would provide an opportunity to consolidate previous achievements while expanding interventions to new communities and strengthening existing peace and protection structures.
The organisation called for the continued cooperation of stakeholders and partners as implementation of the new phase gets underway.
