The Women for Positive Peacebuilding Initiative (WOPPI) has called for renewed commitment to peace, community collaboration and the protection of lives and livelihoods amid recent security challenges affecting communities in Plateau State.
The organisation, which works with women and communities in Bokkos, Mangu and Barkin Ladi Local Government Areas, said the prevailing insecurity goes beyond headlines, as it continues to affect livelihoods, movement and the sense of safety within communities.
In a statement, WOPPI stressed that building lasting peace requires the collective commitment of government, security agencies, traditional and community leaders, women, men, young people and other stakeholders.
The organisation called for strengthened dialogue, community collaboration, early warning and response mechanisms, as well as peaceful approaches to addressing conflicts.
WOPPI also urged communities to promote mutual understanding, reject violence and support initiatives capable of strengthening trust, cooperation and peaceful coexistence.
The organisation expressed solidarity with communities affected by insecurity, reaffirming its commitment to working with women and communities to promote safer, more peaceful and resilient communities across Plateau State.
“Plateau is home to us all. Let us protect our communities. Let us stand together. Let us choose peace,” WOPPI stated.
