The Vice-Chancellor of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology Wudil, Kano State, Prof. Musa Yakasai, has commended the state governor and Visitor to the university, Abba Yusuf, for allocating 31 per cent of the state’s 2025 budget to the education sector.

A statement issued by the institution’s Deputy Registrar, Information and Public Relations, Abdullahi Abdullahi, on Wednesday, noted that the Vice-Chancellor described the allocation as unprecedented in Nigeria’s history.

“This is unique as it has never happened before in Nigeria’s history. Moreover, it surpasses UNESCO’s recommendation of a 25 per cent allocation to the education sector,” he said.

He also praised the governor’s education policy, particularly for declaring a state of emergency in the sector, and urged all stakeholders to support this initiative to achieve its intended goals.

Similarly, the Vice-Chancellor commended Yusuf’s recent approval for the completion of the university’s Dangote Hostel, which had been damaged by fire, noting that contractors have already returned to the site.

“Most significantly, we commend him for approving the settlement of staff allowances, particularly earned allowances owed to members of the university’s staff, the release of funds for the NUC accreditation exercise, and the subsequent approval for the construction of drainage systems on campus,” he said.

He, however, appealed to the governor to allocate “any available facility” within the state to the university to serve as a City Campus.

In July 2024, Yusuf reiterated his administration’s commitment to revitalise the state’s education sector.

He gave this assurance while opening a two-day Education Recovery Conference at the Dangote Business School, Bayero University, Kano, themed “Repositioning Education in Kano State: Navigating the Path to Excellence.”

“Our priority is to benefit from the expertise of specialists, with a commitment to ensuring that no child in this state is left behind.

“We have the political will, but parents, teachers, government, and everyone, including the private sector, should roll up their sleeves. On our part, we believe it is achievable,” he stated.
