The Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has engaged in a conversation with the interns of Lateef Jakande Academy, spurring discussions on purposeful leadership and knowledge-based service.
The meeting, held at the Academy’s office in Alausa, marked the first interaction between the governor and the 32 interns admitted in February for a year-long practical training on leadership.
A press statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Gboyega Akosile on Friday, noted the diverse group of Nigerian fellows, all under the age of 35, currently serve in various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies across Lagos, actively contributing to governance and gaining valuable experiences.
Led by LJLA Executive Secretary, Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade, the fellows welcomed the governor, who took the opportunity to learn about their fellowship journey, challenges, and experiences in their respective roles within the MDAs.
Sanwo-Olu emphasized the LJLA’s role in shaping future leaders and fostering collaboration among fellows to build problem-solving expertise.
He highlighted the academy’s purpose as an initiative to experiment with the progressive nature of the public sector and groom individuals capable of driving positive change in both private and public sectors.
Sanwo-Olu said, “This is part of our deliberate effort to equip you with expertise and hands-on skills to have input in policy, measure performance, and impacts of government programs on society.”
He stressed that LJLA’s impact was not confined to short-term goals but aimed at creating a lasting legacy in the nation’s democratic governance.
The governor commended the interns for gaining firsthand experience of the challenges facing the state, emphasizing the importance of setting realistic targets beyond their internship.
He urged them to leverage their newfound skills, knowledge, and exposure to continue driving positive change in the community.
Agbaje-Okunade expressed gratitude to Sanwo-Olu for his support and insights, noting that the meeting would further inspire the interns to pursue their dreams with renewed enthusiasm.
