FUEP Academic Staff Trained on Grant Writing, High-Impact Journal Publishing

The Federal University of Education Pankshin (FUEP) has commenced a three-day workshop to strengthen the capacity of its academic staff in grant writing and publishing in high-impact journals.The workshop, organised by the University’s Directorate of Research, Innovation and Development, is aimed at improving research capacity, access to research funding and the institution’s visibility nationally and internationally.

Declaring the workshop open, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Noel Wannang, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Anthonia Chukwu, said his administration is committed to making FUEP more visible through successful grant applications and quality publications in reputable journals.He urged participants to take the training seriously and acquire practical knowledge that would enhance their research careers and contribute to the growth of the University.

Prof. Wannang also appreciated the resource persons, Prof. Ishaya Y. Longdet and Dr. Richard J. Kutshik of the University of Jos, for accepting to share their expertise with the University community.In his opening remarks, the Director of Research, Innovation and Development, Prof. Yohanna I. Mallo, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for approving the workshop and creating an enabling environment for research development.Prof. Mallo described the training as a critical step towards strengthening the University’s research capacity, improving access to research funding, enhancing institutional visibility and contributing to economic development.

He encouraged participants to be active and practical throughout the training, expressing hope that the knowledge acquired would be effectively applied both locally and internationally.

In a vote of thanks, the Registrar of FUEP, Mr. Longtong Yadok, said the workshop is designed to equip academic staff with the skills required to compete favourably with academics from other universities for research grants.He expressed optimism that the expertise being provided by the resource persons would help position FUEP for greater visibility within the global academic community.

At the end of the three-day workshop, academic staff are expected to have improved their skills in grant writing and gained greater capacity to publish research findings in high-impact journals.
