The Career Services Centre of the Federal University of Education, Pankshin (FUEP), has organised a training programme for members of the Centre and departmental student mentors on effective student counselling, coaching, mentoring and support services.
The training was aimed at strengthening the capacity of participants to provide students with the guidance and support needed to prepare them for employment, entrepreneurship, further education and professional development.
Declaring the training open, the Vice-Chancellor of FUEP, Prof. Noel Nen’man Ndalbeh Wannang, represented by the Director of Internal Audit, Mr. Michael Danwazam, said preparing students for the future goes beyond equipping them with academic qualifications.
He noted that students also require relevant knowledge, skills, attitudes and career awareness to successfully navigate the world of work and other professional opportunities.
Prof. Wannang described the training as an investment in the students and the future of the University, urging participants to take the programme seriously and translate the knowledge acquired into practical support for students.
In his welcome address, the Director of the Career Services Centre, Dr. Joshua Nehemiah Ndit, described the training as timely and essential to equipping participants with relevant tools and effective mentoring approaches.
Dr. Ndit appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for their approval and continued support for the activities of the Centre.
He also expressed appreciation to the resource person, Engr. Zechariah Piwuna, a politician and retired Director of the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), for accepting the invitation to share his wealth of experience and knowledge with the participants.
In his presentation, Engr. Piwuna delivered an insightful and interactive session on career support approaches, counselling, coaching and mentoring, highlighting practical ways participants could support students in making informed career and professional decisions.
In his closing remarks, the Link Officer to Colleges at the Career Services Centre, Mr. Dogara Manpan, commended the resource person for what he described as a valuable and impactful presentation.
He also appreciated the participants and members of the Career Services Centre for their commitment, describing the training as a fruitful engagement.
