The Plateau State Project Coordination Unit (SPCU) of the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up (NFWP-SU) has intensified efforts to strengthen women’s economic empowerment through a strategic partnership with the Plateau State Microfinance Development Agency (PLASMIDA).
The collaboration was initiated during an advocacy visit by the NFWP-SU team to PLASMIDA, aimed at exploring opportunities that will expand access to financial inclusion, capacity building, and sustainable livelihood support for women across Plateau State.
State Project Coordinator, Barr. Nanret Jane Agaba, said the partnership is designed to create more opportunities for women and youths to improve their economic wellbeing through empowerment initiatives and financial literacy programmes.
She commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang for demonstrating commitment to the programme by providing the state’s counterpart funding, adding that women aged 18 years and above who are engaged in economic activities stand to benefit significantly.
Responding, the Director-General of PLASMIDA, Hon. Bomkam Ali Wuyep, welcomed the initiative, noting that the objectives of the Nigeria for Women Programme align closely with PLASMIDA’s mandate of promoting financial inclusion and economic development.
He stressed the need for continuous capacity building, observing that while several empowerment programmes have been implemented over the years, many beneficiaries have struggled to achieve sustainable economic growth. He described the NFWP-SU model as a practical approach capable of driving lasting economic transformation among women.
Hon. Wuyep also proposed deeper collaboration by recommending the participation of NFWP personnel in PLASMIDA’s financial literacy training programmes and encouraging the inclusion of PLASMIDA officials in NFWP activities to broaden awareness and strengthen financial education among beneficiaries.
Both organisations reaffirmed their commitment to working together to expand economic opportunities for women and ensure the successful implementation of the Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up across Plateau State.
