The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Pankshin (FUEP), Prof. Noel Nen’man Ndalbeh Wannang, has urged the newly elected Executive Council of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), FUEP Branch, to embrace unionism as a two-way street aimed at advancing the collective interests of the University.
Prof. Wannang made the call when the newly elected SSANU FUEP Branch Executive Council, led by its Chairman, Comr. Hilary Katyen, paid a courtesy visit to his office.
The Vice-Chancellor advised the new executives not to view unionism as opposition to management, but as a platform for constructive engagement, collaboration and the overall growth and development of the University.
He tasked the executives to promote a positive attitude to work, support institutional growth and remain conscious of the academic and personal development of students.
Prof. Wannang appreciated the SSANU delegation for the visit and assured the union of Management’s support, stressing that he was himself a unionist and remained willing to work with the various unions within the University at all times.
In a similar development, the Registrar of FUEP, Mr. Longtong Yadok Godwill, who was a former Chairman of SSANU, also received the newly elected executive members during a courtesy visit to his office.
Mr. Yadok appreciated the delegation for the visit and assured them of his commitment to protecting the legitimate interests of the union.
While wishing the new executive council success, the Registrar expressed optimism about a productive working relationship between SSANU and the University Management.
He encouraged the executives to work closely with Management in advancing the University beyond individual interests, while acquainting themselves with the changing policies and growing responsibilities of the institution.
Mr. Yadok further urged the new executives, being the pioneer SSANU leadership in the institution, to lay a solid foundation that would guide the union’s activities in the years ahead.
Earlier, the SSANU FUEP Branch Chairman, Comr. Hilary Katyen, while presenting the union’s mission statement, thanked the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar for receiving the delegation at short notice.
He explained that the courtesy visit would have taken place earlier, noting that the new executive council was elected and inaugurated on August 25, 2026.
Comr. Katyen reaffirmed the union’s commitment to the development, stability and progress of the University, stressing that the union would work directly with the offices of the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar to achieve its objectives.
He said the union remained open to dialogue, discussions and constructive engagement with Management, adding that industrial action, particularly a strike, would be the last resort.
The SSANU Chairman also appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar for their commitment to the welfare of staff.
Other members of the SSANU FUEP Branch Executive Council who accompanied the Chairman were the Vice Chairperson, Mr. Austin Ekele; Secretary, Mr. Ben Omusa; Assistant Secretary, Mr. Garkuwa Ismail; Treasurer, Mrs. Ranghas Inuwa; Women Leader, Mrs. Grace Gora; and Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ifo Ekenedilichukwu.
