Former Governor of Plateau State and Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District, Simon Bako Lalong, has congratulated the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau State Council, Comrade Ayuku Pwaspo, Vice Chairman, Comrade Musa Pam, and other members of the State Executive Council on their re-election for another term in office.
Lalong, in a congratulatory message, expressed delight at the decision of NUJ members to largely return the existing leadership, describing the outcome as a strong vote of confidence in their performance, leadership and commitment to the welfare of journalists in the state.
He said the re-election was a vindication of the team’s efforts towards advancing the journalism profession, promoting professionalism and strengthening the NUJ as a credible platform for journalists to contribute meaningfully to the development of Plateau State and Nigeria.
The former Governor, who noted his longstanding relationship with the media, recalled that he had consistently supported and partnered with journalists and the NUJ throughout his political career — from his time as Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, through his tenure as Governor, and now as Senator representing Plateau South.
According to him, the media remains an indispensable pillar of democracy and good governance, stressing that a vibrant, responsible and professional press is essential to promoting accountability, transparency, good governance and peaceful coexistence.
Lalong congratulated Pwaspo, Pam and the entire Executive Council, urging them to regard their renewed mandate as an opportunity to build on their achievements, foster greater unity among members and further improve the welfare and professional standing of journalists in Plateau State.
He assured the NUJ leadership of his continued friendship, support and partnership, while wishing them wisdom, courage and success as they commence another term of service to the Union and the journalism profession.
