Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has felicitated with Nigerians on the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary, calling for continued commitment to national unity, peace and development.

In a goodwill message marking the anniversary, Governor Mutfwang described October 1 as an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the country’s journey since independence, honour the sacrifices of past leaders, acknowledge existing challenges and celebrate the nation’s achievements.

According to a statement signed by Gyang Bere, PhD, Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, Mutfwang urged Nigerians to preserve the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

The Governor said nation-building is a responsibility passed from one generation to another and maintained that every citizen has a role to play in building a peaceful, stable and prosperous Nigeria.

Mutfwang further said Nigeria’s strength lies in the collective determination of its citizens to rise above their differences and build a country where everyone has a sense of belonging and an opportunity to pursue their aspirations.

The Governor also acknowledged the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in sustaining the unity and stability of the country and advancing what he described as the Nigerian project.

He commended the President’s emphasis on national cohesion, peace, economic development and the collective responsibility of Nigerians in building a stronger nation.

On Plateau State, Governor Mutfwang reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a state where citizens can pursue their aspirations in an atmosphere of peace, security, justice and inclusive development.

He commended Plateau citizens for their resilience, patience, patriotism and contributions to the development of the state and the country.

The Governor urged them to remain committed to the Nigerian project despite the challenges confronting the nation.

Also as part of the Independence Anniversary activities, Governor Mutfwang granted absolute pardon to 130 inmates, according to the statement.

The statement said the Governor exercised the powers conferred on him by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, after consultation with the State Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy.

It added that the sentences of four inmates serving death sentences were reduced to life imprisonment.

Mutfwang, on behalf of the Plateau State Government and the people of the state, wished Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora a peaceful, meaningful and memorable 66th Independence Anniversary.

He urged citizens to continue believing in Nigeria and contribute their quota towards building a nation worthy of the sacrifices of its heroes past and the aspirations of generations yet unborn.
