The Heritage Awards Initiative has honoured Hon. Chief David Bitrus Barji with the Heritage Emerging Political Leadership Award, recognising his growing involvement in political engagement, community development, humanitarian service and youth empowerment.
The award, according to the Heritage Awards Initiative, celebrates Chief Barji as an emerging voice in Plateau politics whose public engagement combines political participation, enterprise, grassroots connection and a growing commitment to public service.
The organisers noted that Barji’s experience in legislative and political affairs has contributed to his understanding of governance, representation and inclusive leadership.
Beyond political activities, the Heritage Awards Initiative highlighted the humanitarian interventions of the Barji Hope Foundation (BHF), which has supported scholarships and educational needs, rehabilitation of school facilities, youth and women empowerment initiatives, humanitarian assistance and relief for vulnerable families.
The Foundation has also supported community interventions, including the rehabilitation of educational facilities and the distribution of palliatives to households.
The award citation further recognised Barji’s entrepreneurial activities, particularly his reported efforts to mentor young people, create opportunities and support initiatives aimed at community development.
His involvement in cultural activities was also highlighted, with the organisers noting his connection to Ngas identity, unity and heritage.
The Heritage Awards Initiative said the Emerging Political Leadership Award celebrates a journey that is still unfolding and reflects political participation, enterprise, humanitarian service and a commitment to creating opportunities for others.
The organisation congratulated Chief David Bitrus Barji on the recognition and described the honour as part of the 2026 Heritage Awards themed: “Celebrating Character. Preserving Heritage. Inspiring Generations.”
