The Federal University of Education, Pankshin (FUEP), has taken a significant step toward strengthening its administrative system with a one-day capacity-building workshop designed to clarify the roles, responsibilities, and operational structures of non-teaching staff.

The workshop, held on July 7, 2026, at the University Auditorium, brought together principal officers, administrators, and resource persons to equip staff with the knowledge needed to support the institution’s vision of becoming one of Nigeria’s leading universities.

Declaring the workshop open, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Noel Wannang, represented by the Dean of the College of Sciences, Prof. Dung Dauda, emphasized that universities thrive not only on academic excellence but also on efficient administration and support services.

According to him, the success of any university depends on the effectiveness of its offices, laboratories, libraries, health facilities, and the personnel who ensure their smooth operation.

Speaking on the theme, “Roles and Responsibilities within the University System,” Prof. Wannang described the training as timely and necessary, stressing that accountability, order, and professionalism are essential ingredients for institutional growth.

The Registrar, Mr. Longtong Yadok, in his keynote address, underscored the critical role of non-teaching staff in sustaining university operations. He noted that while lecturers drive teaching and research, administrative personnel remain the backbone of service delivery, records management, policy implementation, and institutional governance.

Yadok further explained that FUEP’s transition from a College of Education to a University presents new opportunities and responsibilities, including greater autonomy in academic programming and institutional development.

A major highlight of the workshop was a presentation by former Registrar of the University of Jos, Mr. Monday Danjen, who delivered a paper on administrative structures, processes, and procedures within the university system.

Danjen provided participants with a detailed understanding of university governance, explaining the roles of the Governing Council, Senate, Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-Chancellors, Registrar, Bursar, Librarian, and other principal officers in ensuring effective administration.

The workshop also featured a session on emotional intelligence and conflict management delivered by the Registrar of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi, Alhaji Kabiru Aminu, represented by Murtala Garba.

The presentation highlighted the importance of emotional intelligence in resolving workplace conflicts and maintaining institutional harmony. Participants were encouraged to develop empathy, effective communication skills, and transparency in handling challenges within the university environment.

Closing the event, Mr. Yadok expressed appreciation to the facilitators and participants for their commitment to learning and professional development. He expressed confidence that the knowledge gained would enhance service delivery, strengthen institutional effectiveness, and contribute to FUEP’s aspiration of attaining top-tier university status.

The workshop reflects FUEP’s commitment to continuous staff development and the creation of a professional administrative culture capable of supporting academic excellence and sustainable institutional growth.
