The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority has issued a traffic advisory ahead of a mini-marathon organised in support of President Bola Tinubu and scheduled to hold on Sunday in parts of Agege, Lagos.

In a statement posted on its official X handle on Sunday, LASTMA said the marathon will commence from Agege Local Government Area and proceed inward Odo Eran, en route Oba Ogunji to Oke Koto, Oniwaya and Dopemu.

The route will further connect Babajide Sanwo-Olu Road to Agbotikuyo, linking Old Ipaja Motor Road before terminating at Orile Agege Orile Agege Local Council Development Area.

According to the agency, vehicular movement along the affected corridors will be restricted during the event, necessitating the use of alternative routes.

“Vehicles coming from Wemco Road can go through Ogba to Excellent Hotel, linking College Road to Iju Road, and continue their journey.

“Vehicles coming from Pen Cinema can go through Moshalashi Alhaja, linking Mobil Ashade, and continue their journey,” LASTMA advised motorists.

Tagged ‘Run for Asiwaju 2027,’ the mini-marathon was organised by the Orile-Agege LCDA under its chairman, Mr Dipo Liadi.

It aims to foster unity, discover athletic talent and mobilise grassroots support for President Tinubu’s leadership ahead of the next general elections.

Categories included youths, professionals, elderly participants, persons with disabilities, VIPs, and representatives of Hausa and Igbo communities, ensuring broad inclusivity.

Prizes totalled ₦2.3 million, with the first 200 finishers receiving ₦10,000 each and seven elite athletes awarded ₦50,000 apiece.

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, a key endorser of the event, had announced that he would participate in the VIP category and described the marathon as symbolic of Tinubu’s “transformative leadership.”

In a Thursday statement on his X handle, Obasa said, “The marathon will reward excellence, with 200 participants receiving ₦10,000 each, while seven professional athletes will earn ₦50,000 each.”

The traffic management agency urged motorists to comply with traffic officials on duty and plan their movements accordingly to avoid delays.
