The Plateau State Gender and Equal Opportunities Commission (PLASGOEC) has urged its staff to embrace teamwork, professionalism and a culture of excellence in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The Special Adviser to the Plateau State Governor on Gender and Chairperson of PLASGOEC, Barr. Olivia Dazyam, gave the charge during the opening of a three-day staff retreat held at Miango Rest Home in Bassa Local Government Area of the state.
Dazyam stressed the importance of collaboration among staff, urging them to avoid working in isolation and instead foster an institutional culture where every member of the team contributes towards achieving the Commission’s mandate.
She also charged the staff to maintain professionalism in their duties and ensure that their responsibilities are carried out with diligence and commitment.
The PLASGOEC Chairperson expressed appreciation to the Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, for his continued support to the Commission.
According to her, the support provided by the Mutfwang administration has strengthened the Commission and enabled it to make progress in the implementation of its mandate.
Dazyam further highlighted the importance of accurate data collection and proper documentation of cases reported to the Commission.
She noted that beyond receiving complaints, the Commission has a responsibility to ensure that cases brought before it are adequately handled, stressing the need for effective systems for documentation, response and follow-up.
The retreat, themed “Strengthening the Capacity of Staff of the Plateau State Gender Commission Towards Impactful Productivity and the Actualisation of the Agenda of Inclusion of the Government of Caleb Mutfwang,” is aimed at strengthening the capacity of staff and improving their effectiveness in advancing gender equality and inclusion in Plateau State.
As part of the retreat, the resource person, Dr. Gad Shamaki, addressed participants on the history and establishment of the Commission, Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG), as well as effective communication.
The three-day programme is expected to provide staff with opportunities to strengthen their knowledge, improve professional capacity and enhance coordination in the delivery of the Commission’s responsibilities.
