The Plateau State Committee on the Domestication of the HIV Anti-Stigma and Discrimination Bill has presented the final draft of the proposed legislation to the Executive Director of the Plateau State AIDS Control Agency (PLACA), Mrs Esther Turaki.
The presentation marks a significant milestone in efforts to strengthen the protection of the rights and dignity of people living with HIV and other affected populations in Plateau State.
The proposed Bill seeks to address HIV-related stigma and discrimination, promote equality and safeguard human rights, while ensuring that people living with HIV can access healthcare and other essential services without fear of discrimination or prejudice.
The engagement also underscores the importance of collaboration among government institutions, civil society organisations, community representatives and other stakeholders in advancing an inclusive, equitable and rights-based HIV response.
With the final draft now presented, sustained advocacy, stakeholder engagement and institutional commitment will be critical to securing its successful passage into law and ensuring effective implementation.
The initiative is expected to contribute to building a Plateau State where people living with HIV and affected populations are treated with dignity, respect and equality, free from stigma and discrimination.
