The Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up (NFWP-SU) has stepped up efforts to strengthen strategic partnerships with key government institutions in Plateau State to ensure the successful implementation of its women empowerment initiative.
During advocacy visits to the Plateau State Ministry of Information and Communication and the Plateau State Police Command, the project’s Head of Operations, Mr. Rayandy Kim Chuwang, said the engagements were aimed at securing institutional support for public awareness and smooth project implementation.
He explained that the programme is empowering women in the pilot Local Government Areas of Mangu, Mikang, and Jos South, where women aged 18 and above will be organized into Women Affinity Groups (WAGs) of 25 members. The groups are designed to promote savings, improve access to credit, strengthen livelihoods, and prepare beneficiaries for government grant support.
Chuwang also commended the Plateau State Government for approving the expansion of the project to Langtang South, Kanam, and Bassa Local Government Areas, a move he described as a major boost to women’s economic inclusion across the state.
Receiving the delegation, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, mni, described the initiative as a timely intervention that would improve the socio-economic well-being of women. She pledged the ministry’s support through its Directorate of Public Enlightenment, including the production of radio jingles in local languages, posters, and other Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials to reach rural communities effectively.
She also requested the formal submission of the project’s key messages to guide the ministry’s awareness campaign.
At the Plateau State Police Command, Assistant Inspector General of Police, Bassey Ewah, PSC(++), FCAI, MSPSP, assured the project team of the Nigeria Police Force’s full cooperation.
He disclosed that letters of authority would be issued to Divisional Police Officers in the project areas—including the newly added local government areas—to facilitate collaboration, while security personnel would be deployed to accompany field teams during project activities.
The advocacy visits underscore NFWP-SU’s commitment to building strong partnerships with critical stakeholders to enhance public awareness, strengthen community participation, and ensure the successful delivery of women empowerment programmes across Plateau State.
