Super Eagles stars Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Bright Osayi-Samuel have expressed sorrow over the road crash involving British-Nigerian boxer, Anthony Joshua, in Makun, Ogun State, on Monday, which claimed two lives.

PUNCH Online earlier reported that a Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and his associates, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, with number plate KRD 850 HN, rammed into a stationary truck.

Joshua sustained minor injuries and was taken to a Lagos hospital, while his two friends died at the scene. His promoters, Matchroom, later confirmed that he is in a stable condition.

Speaking after Nigeria’s 3–1 win over Uganda at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, on Tuesday, Osimhen described the incident as “devastating.”

“It’s devastating news. He’s been one of the huge celebrities that put Nigeria on the map. He’s done it for so many years. Something like this affected a lot of Nigerians. Condolences to the families of the deceased. It’s not a beautiful thing to lose a life,” the Galatasaray striker said.

Osimhen’s team-mate and Birmingham City’s Osayi-Samuel also reacted to the sad incident, saying that the squad was shocked when they heard the news.

“It wasn’t great, especially as it happened back home as well. Thankfully he [Joshua] was okay. It’s tragic to hear that two of his friends died. We just hope he gets better,” he told ESPN.

Also, Super Eagles captain and Beşiktaş JK midfielder, Ndidi stated that the team felt the pain deeply, praying that Joshua recovers from the sad development.

“Man, it was a difficult one. When we heard he lost his family, it was really sad. I hope he can recover from that. I wish him strength, and to his family and the families of the guys who died as well,” he said.

Joshua had recently secured a sixth-round knockout win over Youtuber-turned boxer, Jake Paul, just 10 days before the fatal crash.
