The PUNCH Media Foundation will host a webinar on Thursday, to propose solutions to women’s rights challenges and gender disparities.
The webinar being held in commemoration of the 2025 International Women’s Day will see thought leaders and advocates advance practical measures that will engender gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in Nigeria, in particular.
A Professor of Adult Education and Lifelong Learning, Bolanle Simeon-Fayomi, and a legal practitioner, Adepeju Jaiyeoba, are among the resource persons who will speak on the webinar themed, “For Every Woman and Girl: Advancing Rights, Equality and Empowerment. ”
Simeon-Fayomi would advance the imperativeness of education in women’s empowerment, leadership opportunities, economic independence, civic participation and attainment of societal progress.
Jaiyeoba, on her part, would shed light on the legal and systemic barriers that hinder the attainment of women’s rights, and available legal frameworks that protect women’s rights.
Other resource persons to illuminate the discourse are a development advocate, Hamzat Lawal, who will examine how government policies can drive financial inclusion for women, leading to economic empowerment, while a multimedia journalist, Melony Ishola, will explore the media’s role in shaping gender narratives.
A chief correspondent at The PUNCH, Kemi Abimbola, will moderate the session, ensuring that the speakers stay on the interconnected themes of education, equality, rights and financial empowerment.
“The webinar aims to highlight the importance of women’s empowerment, gender equality, and rights as key drivers of societal progress; to facilitate discussions on policy, education, and social change needed to dismantle barriers facing women and girls; to inspire collective action and strategic partnerships in advancing gender justice globally,” a statement by the PUNCH Media Foundation stated.
Speaking ahead of the event, the Head, Programmes and Research, PUNCH Media Foundation, Ms Rebecca Erureh, said the foundation was resolute in challenging systemic barriers and accelerating progress towards true gender equity.
“We recognise that sustainable progress is only possible when the rights of all women and girls are protected, their voices amplified, and equal opportunities ensured. This webinar will serve as a platform to drive meaningful conversations, challenge systemic barriers, and explore actionable solutions toward accelerating progress and true gender equity,” Erureh stated.
