A political group, under the auspices of the Coalition of Ondo State Youth and Women Leaders Assembly, has called on the political parties and other stakeholders in the state to start working towards ensuring that youth become the next governor of the state as the governorship election is coming up next year in Ondo State.
The group also urged President Bola Tinubu to consider the appointment of youths in his administration.
The Chairperson of the organisation, Mrs Kemisola Bashiru, who spoke in Akure, the state capital, on Friday, emphasised the positive contribution of youths in nation-building, saying their impact could not be underrated.
According to the group, the positive contributions and impacts of the youths on nation-building could not be undermined, as it noted that the youths were “key to national development and growth, agents of change, progress, and sustainable peace.”
Bashiru said, “We would like to use this golden opportunity to implore our traditional rulers, professional bodies, leaders of political parties, opinion leaders, and all the good people of Ondo State to let us work together and elect a vibrant youth who has distinguished himself in his field of endeavours because there is no doubt that our state is in dire need of a vibrant and youthful governor who must be able to identify the problems, proffer solutions to the problems, and carry everybody along.
“We, the members of the Coalition from all the 203 wards in Ondo State, in conjunction with other interest groups, have resolved to deliver all 18 local governments in Ondo State for a vibrant youth who is eminently qualified and capable to tackle unemployment, insecurity, and the economic crisis and who can build more on the legacies of present and past administrations in the state.”
As the governorship election draws nearer, the group called on all the youths and the people of the state to go out to support one of them taking up the leadership position because “we must join hands together to put an end to a situation whereby we are nothing but used and dumped instruments in the hands of politicians.”
“We need accelerated economic development towards sustainable livelihood for the youth, women, and the entire good people of Ondo State. No longer should any youth or woman in Ondo State beg for bread because we are 100 per cent determined to support a youthful candidate who has genuine plans to revive the moribund industries in the state, ” Bashiru stressed.
