A former Nigerian ambassador to South Korea, Desmond Akawor, has resigned from his appointment as the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State.
Akawor emerged as Rivers PDP chairman in March 2020, succeeding Felix Obuah, and has occupied the position since then.
His resignation was contained in a letter dated November 22, 2023, and addressed to the acting National Chairman of the PDP, Ambassador Umar Damagum,
He explained that his resignation followed his nomination by President Bola Tinubu for a federal appointment to the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission as Federal Commissioner representing Rivers State.

“I remain committed to the ideals of our party always and will continue to be available to provide, steer and support for all party affairs whenever l am called upon.”
