A singer Joel Amadi, popularly known as Joe El, is of the opinion that for any artiste to make it big in the music industry, such a person should be ready to relocate to Lagos State.

Justifying his claim, he told Saturday Beats, “From my personal experience, one has to come to Lagos as an artiste to make it big in the entertainment industry. I was once in Kano State, but I had to relocate to Lagos to be able to make it big. One of the reasons is that the big record labels are in Lagos. Most of the investors are also there. As a matter of fact, 99 per cent of the a-list artistes are based in Lagos. There are talented people in other states as well, but the people who make things happen in the industry are in Lagos.

“It is after one makes it big that one can start performing outside Lagos, because people from different places would be calling one for shows. In Kano, where I started my music career, there are a lot of talented artistes, but one cannot make it big there, because there are no A-list artistes in that state. One needs to be around the circle of the top shots in the industry to make it big.”

Asked what he has been up to, Joe El said, “My deal with Kennis Music expired last July, so I am working on my own label for my next project. I have two singles coming up, before the album is released. I have some collaborations as well. I also hope to work with international artistes. For now, I will be collaborating with my colleagues here in Nigeria and Ghana (such as Shatta Wale). I need to be sure everything is intact before embarking on this new journey. I have not left the industry. It is not as if I am not doing music anymore. As a matter of fact, this is a new beginning, so my fans should get ready for steady hits from me.”
