Leading APC senatorial aspirant for Plateau Central, Chief Hon. David Barji, has concluded his consultation tour across Kanam, Kanke, and Pankshin Local Government Areas with widespread support and endorsements from party stakeholders, community leaders, youths, and women groups.

The tour, which attracted large gatherings across the three LGAs, further reinforced Barji’s growing popularity and grassroots acceptance ahead of the party’s senatorial primaries.

The delegation, led by former two-term member of the House of Representatives and Director-General of the Chief Barji Campaign Council, Hon. Solomon Maren, alongside other leaders and supporters of the Face of Hope movement, first visited the Emir’s Palace in Dengi, headquarters of Kanam LGA, where they paid homage to the traditional institution.

Addressing APC stakeholders and supporters in Kanam, Barji said Plateau Central requires experienced representation capable of attracting development and effectively defending the interests of the people at the National Assembly.

Stakeholders at the meeting described the aspirant’s over two decades of legislative experience as a major advantage for the zone, noting that his exposure and political maturity position him as a strong contender for the Senate.

In Kanke, supporters described Barji as “their own son,” reflecting his long-standing connection with the area where he spent part of his early life.

Speaking during the engagement, Barji praised the contributions of Kanke indigenes to national development and paid tribute to notable sons of the area, including former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, and the late military administrator, Joseph Gomwalk.

He also commended Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda for what he described as exemplary leadership and political promise in Plateau State.

The consultation tour climaxed in Pankshin, where Barji received a rousing welcome from party faithful, community leaders, and supporters who pledged their support for his aspiration.

The aspirant assured the people of his readiness to collaborate with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, to attract development projects and strengthen people-oriented representation across the senatorial district.

According to him, effective representation goes beyond occupying public office and must focus on lawmaking, appropriation, oversight functions, and lobbying for projects that directly impact the lives of citizens.

“I have spent years understanding how government works, especially within the National Assembly. Plateau Central deserves experienced representation that can attract development and give our people a stronger voice at the national level,”
Barji stated.

During the meetings, the aspirant also observed a one-minute silence in honour of victims of insecurity and attacks in Plateau State and other parts of the country.

He urged citizens and leaders to unite in safeguarding communities and ensuring a peaceful future for younger generations.

The meetings brought together party executives from local government to ward levels, polling unit stakeholders, youth and women groups, grassroots mobilizers, and party elders across the three LGAs.

Observers say the successful conclusion of the consultation tour has further positioned Chief Hon. David Barji as a formidable contender for the Plateau Central senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 elections.
