The Lagos State Police Command said on Sunday that a total of 1,019 suspected miscreants were arrested in different parts of the state in six days.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.

PUNCH Metro gathered that they were apprehended between April 8 and April 14.

A statement issued by the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad on Tuesday stated that 43 suspected miscreants were apprehended at Oshodi.

The statement partly reads, “Operatives of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad on Tuesday arrested 43 suspects in an all-night raid of notorious spots in Oshodi and its environs, just as they recovered a semi-automatic pistol in a separate incident the same day.

“Some of the weapons recovered were pistols, 9mm calibre, and expended ammunition.

“The pistol was recovered in Opebi, Ikeja, when Commander RRS, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, deployed a team from the squad to verify information received from members of the public. Also recovered during the discreet operation were two 9mm cartridges and one expended cartridge of ammunition.

He disclosed that the 43 suspects were those found culpable after a thorough screening of all arrested suspects by the Commander RRS, noting that they would be charged to court immediately.

“Between April 8 and April 14, a total of 1,019 including 43 were arrested by the Rapid Response Squad. The suspects will be arraigned tomorrow.”

PUNCH Metro had reported that pedestrians using the PWD, Ladipo, Oshodi, and Berger bridges in Lagos State had lamented the presence of fierce-looking louts seizing control of the bridges.
