The Programme on Women, Peace and Security in Nigeria, Phase 11 has already started and the WPS Programme Phase II is designed to consolidate the gains of phase I and other WSP projects implemented by UN Women
The Programme is a 3-Year initiative (2022-2024) that the Nigerian Government towards meeting its commitments on UNSCR 1325, the NAP and its localization at state and LGA levels.
The new Programme will also include women’s leadership and political participation, particularly in relation to peace and security concerns.
Focus Areas of the programme include; Development of Nigeria’s 3rd NAP, Legislative Engagement on WPS, Women’s Leadership & Political Participation, Women Mediation
Overall Objective of the WPS Programme in Nigeria is to realize a more peaceful and gender-equal society by creating an enabling environment for the implementation of WPS Commitments through strengthening policy frameworks, capacity, coordination, and oversight of federal and state entities and increasing the meaningful participation of women to deliver on UNSCR 1325 commitments for conflict prevention and sustainable peace.
The Programme funded by the Norwegian Government will implemented by partners in Nigeria, including the Media.
The UN Women, Peace and Security Programme Media Network members have been actively engaged in raising public awareness on UNSCR 1325 and related issues, at all levels.
The State WPS Media Network’s overarching goal is to provide members with a platform for coordination and strategic guidance as they actively engage in promoting and reporting on women’s engagement in peace and security issues in the media.
In accordance with its purpose, the WPS Media Network in Plateau State has been enlisting members to make sure that work plans are created in accordance with the Phase 11 WPS program that are feasible, realistic, and implementable.
