The outgoing Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the Federal University of Education, Pankshin (FUEP), for part-time students has handed over to a new executive council, reporting a closing balance of at least ₦200,000 from an opening balance of ₦20,000 and donating office equipment to establish a business centre aimed at boosting the Union’s internally generated revenue.
The outgoing President, Comrade Nathan Jerry, announced the financial position during the handover ceremony, where his administration presented a photocopier, printer, laptop, public address system and two sets of jerseys to the incoming EXCO led by Comrade Innocent Dawam.
The transition also involved the transfer of the Union’s constitution, official files and financial reports to ensure accountability and continuity.
The Director of External Programmes for University of Jos programmes at FUEP, Professor Solomon Mangvwat, charged the new executives to prioritise student welfare, uphold transparency and accountability, and maintain a productive relationship with the Directorate.
He noted that trust, discipline and inclusiveness were essential to effective student leadership, commending the outgoing EXCO for its cooperation with the Directorate and efforts to establish a foundation for its successors.
Mangvwat said the formal handover would help the new leadership understand its responsibilities, sustain existing achievements and identify areas requiring improvement.
In his valedictory address, Jerry thanked the University’s management, staff and Directorate of External Programmes for their support throughout his administration.
He listed interventions on delayed examination results, securing financial autonomy for the Union and improving sanitation among the administration’s achievements.
On sanitation, he explained that the outgoing EXCO engaged and paid ad hoc workers to clean and maintain student toilets and also carried out improvement work on the facilities.
Jerry said the donated equipment was intended to help the incoming administration establish a business centre, diversify the Union’s income and reduce its reliance on students’ dues.
In his acceptance speech, Dawam commended the outgoing executives for their sacrifices and achievements, pledging to build on their foundation through responsible and inclusive leadership.
He thanked his supporters and promised to serve with humility and dedication, emphasising that meaningful progress would require collective effort and stakeholder cooperation.
The new President also pledged to work with University management, the Directorate and other relevant stakeholders to address students’ concerns and improve their academic and administrative experience.
The President of the regular FUEP SUG, Comrade Lohkur Vondip, congratulated the outgoing EXCO on its achievements and urged the incoming officials to protect and properly manage the donated equipment for the benefit of the Union and its members.
Earlier, the outgoing SUG Secretary welcomed the Directorate’s representatives, describing their presence as evidence of their commitment to educational development and the growth of the institution.
In his vote of thanks, the Deputy Director of External Programmes, Dr. Din Sarki, commended the outgoing leadership and pledged continued cooperation with its successors.
Sarki promised to support the installation and setup of the donated equipment to facilitate the proposed business centre.
He further disclosed that the Directorate was taking steps to address existing challenges and working towards a fully automated programme by the next contact session.
The ceremony was attended by the Deputy Director II of the Directorate, Mr. Denji Kitka, and the Deputy Registrar, Hajiya Zainab Bello, among other stakeholders.
The handover marks the beginning of a new administration expected to sustain the Union’s achievements, strengthen its financial base and deepen engagement with university authorities.
