The Plateau State AIDS Control Agency (PLACA) has called for stronger collaboration with the Plateau State Gender and Equal Opportunities Commission (PLASGEOC) to address HIV/AIDS-related issues and reduce stigma against people living with the virus in the state.
The call was made during a courtesy visit by representatives of PLACA to the Plateau State Gender and Equal Opportunities Commission on Friday, September 25, 2026.
Receiving the delegation, the Acting Chairperson of the Commission, Olivia Dazyam, Esq., said the Plateau State Government remains committed to supporting people living with HIV/AIDS, particularly women across the state.
Dazyam stressed the importance of strengthening the partnership between the two institutions, noting that both organisations have responsibilities that touch on HIV/AIDS, gender equality and the well-being of affected persons.
She said closer collaboration would create an avenue for PLACA to refer specific HIV/AIDS-related cases to the Commission for appropriate attention and intervention.
Speaking during the visit, the Executive Director of PLACA, Esther Turaki, explained that the agency’s mandate is to coordinate the multisectoral response to HIV/AIDS in Plateau State.
Turaki said PLACA works to address HIV-related cases, create awareness about the disease, reduce stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS, and empower affected persons to contribute meaningfully to society.
She added that the agency collaborates with various organisations and support groups, including the Association of Women Living with HIV/AIDS, to provide support and improve the well-being of people affected by HIV/AIDS.
The visit ended on a cordial note, with both institutions expressing their commitment to strengthening collaboration and advancing efforts to address HIV/AIDS-related challenges in Plateau State.
