The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed that bandits attacked Duhuwa town, in the Wurno Local Government Area of the state, killing at least five people while four others were injured in the process.

The spokesman for the command, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, while speaking with our correspondent on the telephone on Saturday confirmed the incident and said many others were also abducted in the process.

Meanwhile, a resident of the village, Dalhatu  Duhuwa, who spoke with our correspondent disagreed with the police on the number of casualties, which he put at six and not five as announced by the police.

Duhuwa, while confirming the number of casualties said the incident began around 10.30 pm on Thursday and lasted till around 12.10 am on Friday when the bandits left the village.

The resident said, “The incident started around 10.30pmand lasted till around 12.10 am when the bandits left after killing about six persons, all men, injured four and abducting some women.

“Though police and other security operatives mobilised and came at about 12:25 am, they got the information through some of us who are social media influencers and through our post.

“They tried to pursue the bandits into the bush but unfortunately could not see them as they have gone far.”

Meanwhile, Duhuwa who is a social media influencer, has appealed to the security agents currently in the village to extend their stay and be vigilant.

He said there is information going on that the  bandits are hiding in the bush close to the village and may still launch an attack again
