According to the World Health Organization, the majority of those living with HIV/AIDS are found on the African continent.
The organization estimates that 25.6 million people worldwide are afflicted by the condition.
This was stated by Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, WHO Regional Director for Africa, in her statement to recognize World AIDS Day this year.

According to her, the theme for 2022, “Equalize,” is a call to action for everyone to address the injustices that are fueling the epidemic and impeding efforts to put an end to AIDS.

According to Moeti, the expansion of innovative HIV prevention and treatment technologies was promoted and supported by WHO and its partners, which is why progress has been made.

The Regional Director counseled governments and partners to concentrate on the populations that are being neglected in order to close the inequality gaps in the movement to end AIDS.

Every year on December 1, the Day is observed to raise awareness of the illness and serve as a reminder to all relevant parties that it is still very much a problem.
