The Osun State Government on Wednesday called on the public to disregard a video being circulated on social media purporting that the Governor of the State, Ademola Adeleke, disrespected the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, at a public function.
In the said video, Oba Ogunwusi was standing and wanted to greet Adeleke, who had moved towards the monarch, but suddenly shifted attention to another dignitary sitting beside Ooni on the high table.
Reacting to the video which generated diverse reactions on social media, with some people accusing Adeleke of disrespecting the monarch, the State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr. Kolapo Alimi, in a statement said Adeleke and the Ooni enjoy the best of relations, noting that the video was doctored.
Alimi further said the good relationship that existed between the two personalities was evident, going by the cordial exchange of pleasantries they had at the palace of Osemawe of Ondo at the coronation of Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi where the video was recorded.
The statement further read, “The attention of the Osun State Government has been drawn to a doctored video being circulated on social media by agents of the opposition and fake news peddlers.
“Governor Ademola Adeleke and Ooni of Ife, HRM Oba Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II enjoy the best of relations as evident by the cordial exchange of pleasantries at the Palace of Osemawe of Ondo at the coronation of Senator Olubiyi Ajagunla.
“We are by this medium appealing to members of the public to disregard the doctored video in its entirety while we have uploaded the original videos for public consumption.”
