Senator Natasha donates 700 computers to Kogi school

In a major move to boost digital education in Kogi State, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has donated 700 computers to Abdul Azeez Attah Memorial College (AAAMCO) in Okene – one of Northern Nigeria’s oldest and most prestigious secondary schools.

The donation is part of the senator’s broader goal to modernize public education and equip students with the skills needed to thrive in today’s tech-driven world.

During the official handover ceremony, Senator Natasha Akpoti highlighted the importance of aligning the Nigerian school system with global trends in digital learning.

“To educate a mind is to enlighten a mind, and enlightened minds build strong societies and economies,” she said. “With the rise of artificial intelligence and robotics, denying our children access to modern technology is a disservice.”

She added that the intervention would soon be extended to other public schools across Kogi Central, stressing that access to digital tools in education should be a basic right, just as it is in countries like Rwanda and Ghana.

The Ohi of Okene, HRH Alhaji Okatahi Mamman, lauded the initiative as a visionary step and urged students to use the computers responsibly.

“This is a forward-thinking investment in our future,” the royal father remarked.

Also speaking at the event, Mr. Paul Amoh, Principal of AAAMCO, expressed deep gratitude, noting that the school had already seen major upgrades through Senator Natasha’s earlier interventions, including the construction of a one-kilometer internal road, classroom renovations, and solar-powered streetlights.

“She is not just giving us devices, she is giving us a future,” he said. “This is a major leap toward becoming a fully smart school.”

Engr. Yusuf Momohjimoh, National Secretary of the school’s Old Boys Forum, also praised the gesture, calling it a catalyst for educational and community development.

He assured that the alumni association would help safeguard and maintain the devices.

“This is about more than just computers. It’s about preparing our children and our community for the future,” he said.

Founded in the 1920s, AAAMCO has produced several notable figures, including former Military President General Ibrahim Babangida, among others.
