The Premier League release a statement saying they will offer Liverpool FC their “full support” after an incident on Water Street during their trophy parade
The Premier League say they have reached out to Liverpool Football Club to offer their “full support” after an incident on Water Street at the end of the trophy parade that saw a man detained following a road traffic collision with a number of pedestrians.
Police were contacted at around 6pm on Monday evening, just as Liverpool’s city-wide bus tour was coming to a close on Blundell Street, on the city’s waterfront. Merseyside Police have since confirmed a man who has been arrested is a 53-year-old white British man, who is from the local area. It’s unknown at this stage how many have been injured in the collision.
A large emergency-service presence was visible across Dale Street, Castle Street and Water Street itself after the incident and Liverpool officials have been in direct contact with Merseyside Police since.
The Premier League have now confirmed they are also aware of the latest developments, saying they will work with their new champions to help wherever they can.
A statement read: “Everyone at the Premier League is shocked by the appalling events in Liverpool this evening, and our heartfelt thoughts go out to all those injured and affected.
“We have been in contact with Liverpool FC and have offered our full support following this serious incident.”
A Liverpool FC spokesperson said: “We are in direct contact with Merseyside Police regarding the incident on Water Street which happened towards the end of the trophy parade earlier this evening.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with those who been affected by this serious incident. We will continue to offer our full support to the emergency services and local authorities who are dealing with this incident.”

An air ambulance landed near the Liver Building following the incident, while The Strand has been cordoned off and trains out of the city centre have been temporarily cancelled.
Liverpool began their city-wide parade at around 2:30pm from the Allerton area before making their way north towards the Childwall Fiveways roundabout and then on to Tuebrook, before heading into the centre via Islington, Leeds Street and The Strand.
