'Don't Disrespect Our Son Again' - Akwa Ibom Women Protest Sexual Allegations Against Akpabio

A group of women from Akwa Ibom State has taken to the streets in protest, demanding an end to what they call false accusations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The women, said to be from Essien Udim Local Government Area, Akpabio’s nativity, expressed their anger over the sexual harassment allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central in the Senate.

Carrying placards with messages of support for Akpabio, the protesters insisted that the Senate President was being unfairly targeted. They accused Akpoti-Uduaghan of trying to tarnish his reputation and called on her to withdraw her claims.

It can be recalled that on February 20, 2025, Akpoti-Uduaghan had a heated confrontation with Akpabio during a Senate session. The issue arose when she discovered that her seat had been changed without her permission. The disagreement quickly escalated, leading the Senate to vote unanimously to refer her case to the Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions for disciplinary review.

However, the situation took a more serious turn when Akpoti-Uduaghan went public with allegations against Akpabio. In an interview with Arise Television on Friday, she claimed that Akpabio had sexually harassed her. According to her, the Senate President had been intimidating and blocking her motions because she rejected his alleged sexual advances.
