In a recent interview with Arise News, Ikenga Ugochinyere, a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), expressed his dissatisfaction with the actions of the party’s Acting National Chairman and Secretary. Ugochinyere alleged that these key officials had been politically compromised and acted as personal aides to the current Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, who is now part of the ruling APC Government.
Ugochinyere highlighted the ongoing internal challenges within the PDP, suggesting that the betrayal orchestrated by Wike against the party over the last year was facilitated by the compromised leadership. According to Ugochinyere, these officials-particularly the Acting National Chairman-took directives directly from Wike, furthering the agenda of the APC despite their roles in the PDP.
Citing a significant example, Ugochinyere explained how the Acting Chairman defied a court order to halt the Rivers State Congress. Instead, the congress proceeded, leading to Wike’s supporters seizing control of party structures in Rivers. “These are people who have already pledged their allegiance to the APC’s 2027 agenda,” Ugochinyere emphasized during the interview. He added that the National Chairman’s actions have effectively given Wike and his loyalists control over the PDP’s internal operations in Rivers State.
In his words;
“The act of Betrayal that the FCT Minister has been carrying against the party for the last one year was possible because he had an acting National Chairman, the Secretary and some few others who have been politically compromised. In short, they’re like PA and Agents of the Minister who’s working in an APC Government, they take instructions from him. You can imagine for the National Chairman. There was Court order for them not to do a State Congress in Rivers, but he want ahead and did it and the supporters of the FCT Minister were dashed the structures of the party and these are people who have already pledged their allegiance to APC agenda of winning in 2027.”
