The Plateau State Government has concluded a high-level strategic retreat aimed at finalizing the operational framework for the seamless rollout of the Nigeria Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) 2.0.
The six-day retreat, organized by the Plateau State CARES Coordinating Unit (PLSCCU), was held at KINI Country Hotel and Suites in Akwanga, Nasarawa State, Nigeria.
The event brought together key operational staff and heads of delivery platforms to harmonize strategies and strengthen coordination for the next phase of the economic intervention programme.
While declaring the retreat open, the Chairman of the Plateau State CARES Steering Committee and Commissioner of Finance, Mrs. Grace Dongkum, described NG-CARES as the “mother of all projects” in the state. She emphasized the administration’s commitment to leveraging the initiative as a primary vehicle for poverty reduction and economic recovery.
“This retreat provided a critical opportunity for all stakeholders to deepen their understanding of the NG-CARES 2.0 framework,” she stated. “The success of this phase depends on our ability to translate these strategies into tangible results for the people of Plateau State.”
In his remarks, the State Coordinator of PL-CARES, Dr. Haggai Gutap, explained that the retreat was designed to equip delivery platforms with the technical knowledge and strategic orientation required for effective implementation.
“We are not just looking forward; we are also looking back to improve performance,” he said. “A key component of the retreat was a comprehensive review of activities implemented during NG-CARES 1.0. By identifying past challenges and gaps, we can chart a more resilient and efficient path forward for Version 2.0.”
The retreat featured technical sessions, performance reviews, and strategic planning modules focused on ensuring that programme interventions effectively reach the most vulnerable populations across Plateau State.
The Plateau State Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (PL-CARES) is a multi-sectoral programme designed to expand access to livelihood support, basic services, and food security, while also providing grants to poor and vulnerable households and businesses.
